Art & Technology Studio

VELVET FLARE is a Luxembourg-based creative technology studio specialising in the research, development and manufacture of innovative technologies for the cultural and creative industries.

Directed by Nicolas Blies and Stéphane Hueber-Blies, the studio builds on the approach of their artistic duo, BLIESBRO. For over ten years, their work has explored cinema, poetry, music, dance, performance and immersive arts. The challenges encountered in their creative process become subjects for research, which in turn give rise to technologies that benefit the wider creative community. This artistic and technological identity forms the foundation of VELVET FLARE.

Our technologies do not arise from technical demonstrations, but from challenges encountered whilst creating works. Every tool we develop addresses a specific need identified during our own artistic productions or those of our partners.

Because we are creators ourselves, we understand the challenges of storytelling, movement, light, sound and interaction. This dual artistic and technological background guides our R&D and gives rise to unique, intuitive innovations that are deeply rooted in creative practice.

Our ambition is to make these technologies available to all creators, enabling them to imagine the artistic forms of tomorrow.

"By bringing together creativity, engineering and research, VELVET FLARE is building a technological ecosystem entirely dedicated to cultural innovation."

Our activities

Creative software

We develop software that supports every stage of the creative process. Our applications make advanced creative tools accessible through intuitive interfaces, without compromising on their power. Our solutions include Fluo, a creative writing assistant, and Flow, a mobile app dedicated to choreography and the exploration of movement.

Technological Systems

We also design hardware and embedded systems for professionals in the performing arts, audiovisual sector, interactive installations and immersive experiences. These solutions combine electronics, embedded computing, sensors, networks and software to meet the demands of professional productions.

In-house projects, such as Rainbow Wardrobe and Omnilocator, illustrate this approach. They pioneer new forms of interaction between artists, audiences and performance spaces, whilst opening up new ways of experiencing and sharing the artistic experience.
